While still a university student, founder Uttam Barai started freelancing on oDesk — the platform now known as Upwork.
Believing other students could earn the same way, Uttam started a 15-day training batch focused on SEO and digital marketing. All 10 students in Batch 1 landed jobs on Upwork. New batches followed every 15 days, with a success rate that has stayed close to 99% ever since.
UttamIT began serving schools, colleges, NGOs, private companies, small businesses and religious institutions with websites, IT support and digital services — in addition to running training batches.
UttamIT now provides the full range of digital services — including AI and other emerging technology — to organisations nationwide, while continuing to train new students for freelancing careers.
Uttam started freelancing as a university student in 2012, learning by doing on oDesk. A year later, he began teaching what he'd learned to fellow students — a batch of 10 that became the foundation of UttamIT's training program. Since 2015, he has grown UttamIT into a full-service IT company, without ever stepping away from the classroom.
